27/08/17 -- Dartmoor Walking Festival. Dartmoors Dramatic Southern Point near Ivybridge.

The Ivybridge Walking Club are pleased to offer a walk as part of the Dartmoor Walking Festival. Weather permitting, participants will be able to experience the varied terrain surrounding the town of Ivybridge or 'the village' as the locals refer to it and enjoy some spectacular views.

For this walk of 6/7 miles, we will make our way through Longtimber Woods next to the picturesque River Erme heading to Harford and from there access Dartmoor at Butter Brook and head towards Hangershell rocks. We visit bronze age archeology and then go to the trig point at Butterdon Hill. From there we will follow the stone row to Western Beacon and hopefully enjoy fantastic views. We then start to leave the moor and make our way back to Ivybridge.

Meet in the Watermark car park (free on Sundays) for a prompt 10.00 am start.

Walkers should wear walking boots and full length trousers are recommended. Gaiters/over trousers maybe required dependent on weather conditions. Please bring refreshments for the coffee and lunch stops. On the moor there will be ponies, sheep and cattle so dogs should be on a lead for that part of the walk. There will be water crossings so walkers may wish to use walking poles.

Walk Leaders Bob and Margaret P

Debrief will be in Ivybridge and will depend on numbers on the day.
